Hyaluronic acid injections in post-enucleation or evisceration socket syndrome: a case series

Abstract Background One of the primary goals enucleation and evisceration surgery is restoration an adequate orbital volume through use appropriately sized alloplastic or autogenous tissues. In patients inadequately treated, post-enucleation socket syndrome occurs. Fillers are ideal alternative for eyelid eyebrow arcade enhancement since their injection easily performed in outpatient setting avoiding several complications. The aim this study to report hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers treat deficits upper lower eyelids, projecting brow reducing asymmetry. Methods Thirteen (2 male, 11 female, mean age 32.7 years) were treated from June 2012 May 2020. Non-surgical treatment by HA filler aesthetic rehabilitation deep superior sulcus, inferior tear trough deformity, scleral show was performed. Results No complications as orbital-ache and/or vasovagal response reported during injections. Minor such light swelling at site injection, self-resolved within 2 days, recorded. Stable results observed follow-ups. two cases, successive treatments required 3 6 years first injection. Conclusions Hyaluronic offer a versatile safe method replacing soft tissue lost eyelid/brow complex cases syndrome. Level evidence: IV, therapeutic study.
